After digging around for a while I found a decent looking TD5 - it's a 51 plate TD5 XS with 64K miles.

When I test drove it all apeared well until you accelerated firmly; at just below 3000 RPM the Disco stuttered until eventually revving through a big flat spot.

The guy selling it tells me he has now had the air flow meter (MAF ?) and injection harness replaced. I've driven it again and whilst it picks up more cleanly at the lower rev range, the stutter is still there at just below 3000 revs.

It's a really tidy car and I hope he can get it fixed but I' wary of taking on a new car with a fault like this. Does anyone have any other ideas on the cause of the problem please?

Gunge on the MAP sensor, which is on the inlet manifold can affect it like this. Mine wouldn't rev out properly until I cleaned it.

It's a 5 min job to clean it. Take engine cover off, then 2x8mm bolts and pull the plug out, spray of contact cleaner and your'e done.

It would be useful to get the car put on diagnostics. It could well be something simple.

Just thinking also that the Turbo wastegate arm could be sticking. Mine was doing this also. It just needs lubed a bit to free it up. A very common problem.

Cheers

Andy

An update on this; the seller has had it fixed - he says it was the ECU that was causing the problem. The Disco pulls like a train and now it's mine :)

No, not yet. I have read alot about fuel lines leaking through rubbing on the chassis. LRO this month has an article on replacing TD5 fuel lines at the rear of the chassis.
