hi
Does anyone know is there a difference between the left and right front springs in a discovery. Its a 2001 td5. I have seen there is two different part numbers and two different prices.

only asking because i got a broken front left and have got a second hand right hand one and colour codes match ok. just wondering will it fit ok?

Can i change the spring by dropping the axle of the bottom of the shock or do i have to remove the shock? Or has anyone any quick or easy methods of changing these.

Thanks for reading and any replies posted.

L & R are the same, as in not handed...as long as theyre the same colour code as there are options on lengths & duties

I found that the front springs I put on my depender from a disco were different lengths.
The nearside one was ever so slightly taller than the offside one.:)
might be just mine though.

it were fooked then

Nope not fooked, the springs are handed on RHD and the drivers side is longer. The only Land Rover springs on a Disco 2 that are the same length both sides are winch springs.

And YES you will have to drop the axle a LONG way, you may even need spring compressors and removal of the anti roll bar links, there is NO retaining plate on a Disco 2.

When I changed mine the standard Disco springs I took off were identical lengths per axle, the fronts being a tad longer than the rears. Same for a second set of standards I acquired and same for the set of HD springs that are now on ...

You have a Disco 1, the D2 springs ARE handed........

summat new every day UP'py!

changed spring this week

easiest spring i've ever done.
jacked up and put axle stand below chassis.
just unscrewed bottom two bolts holding shock to axle and pushed shock up as far as it would go. removed old broken spring and inserted new one, reconnected shock. simple.

left hand spring and right hand spring are two different lengths the left hand being shorter and both having different colour codes.

So in other words they are "handed" ;)

"one" of the things to consider when replacing springs, either normal or lifted / heavy duty as not all manufacturers, infact very few take into account the springs are handed.

i have the same problem.just bought two springs from land rover and they are handed. one is slightly longer.sorry dont know which is which. thats the reason i just logged on lz for lol.

arent they slightly different heights/strengths and that when empty the drivers side will sit higher but with a full fuel tank and a driver they level out? sure ive read that somewhere but may be on the disco 1, if they have different part numbers and prices I would imagine that they are different.
