Hi
I have a 1996 Discovery 300TDI auto with ABS. Last week my mother borrowed the car while I was on holiday, there was a loud Metal tearing sound and after the brakes completely failed. The brake pressure seemed none existent and the pedal went to the floor. I have had a quick look around the car and have not seen anything obvious except evidence of fluid on the inner wing directly under a nipple on the brake master cylinder. The following is what I can report
The brakes now feel fine and seem to work as they should
Brake fluid level is good
Brake calipers show no signs of damage
Brake pads are healthy and are in place
Considering the above I suspect that the master cylinder is faulty but I am concerned that the brakes seem to be working ok now and have heard that the ABS system can cause the same fault.
Has anyone had similar problems?
Any thoughts on what the problem could be?
Thank you in advance for any assistance given
