wondering if anyone has had the same problem or has any good advise! 90% of the time fire the girl up and abs light comes on and soon as you start moving it goes out but the other 10% of the time it just stays on!! just so happens it bloody stayed on when mr m.o.t man tested her  its a m reg disco ec tdi any help will be great

mine is on all the time now so this would be usefull to know before the MOT

but im having new brakes fitted on the back so i will see if the light goes out

ive had this for years, do a search or even read some of my old threads, theres a way to make the imobilisor light flash a blink code that you can then check on a chart, its that or 40 odd quid to plug it onto a testbook to tell you the same thing.(unfortunately when i did it it cameup with a code that didnt exist!?) Its a bit of a dark art the old ABS and i have yet to master it. you could take each sensor out gently, clean it and then push ot back in as far as you can(it will reposition itself when you start driving) you could check the sensors for continuity - each wheel has to be jacked up individually and then span to get a reading i think, theres loads you can try like i said just do a search .

oh yeah if the ABS really starts to play up (mine started to overeact) you can "turn off" the ABS by pulling the fuse out under the dash, thats what i had to do as no ABS turned out to be safer than overeacting ABS. the abs light will however stay on so you couldnt diddle the MOT man:)

Do a search for a thread by myself on " can I revert from abs to non abs" dated 31/08/09

"Karlo" replied towards the end of this thread with the BLINK method and a set of printable instructions and abs codes. This is easy to do and it worked for me.

Could be you have a dodgy connector at the modulator pump, try disconnecting it and cleaning the contacts to see if it helps. Its just in front of the modulator beside the front left wheel sensor plug.

If you get stuck with the BLINK method PM me but I won't be able to pick it till friday or saturday as I am working late next 2 nights.
