Discovery 3 oil leak

Well lads need help wit a serious oil leak on my discovery 3 it's comin from around the oil filter housing any ideas of what it may be and how to repair where to get parts needed etc any help will be greatly appreciated as I'm driving an 05 passat at minute and I can't bear it for much longer😄😄

Have you had any work done recently? Oil change etc? Filter oil seal twisted?

I serviced it yesterday but it had been leaking before that thought that might b the problem so before a serviced it I power washed every bit of oil on engine off to see where it was comin from and it's seems to b comin around the oil filter housing area

Did you definately remove the old sealing ring? If it beame twisted it can get very messy, very quickly

I did indeed the old one looked quite worn defo put on new one I can remove it again and check

Took out oil filter again seal perfect cleaned off any oil drove it approx 3 miles and oil pourin out again It has my head wrecked at this point

The seal isn't tapered is it ?

You can get a bad leak from the filter cover 'o' ring if it's not seated correctly, it will leak into the onto the block in the 'V' and flow out the back and down the bellhousing...

or if there are 2 O rings, coz someone didnt remove the old one before fitting a new one .

Or if it got twisted.

or it's the oil cooler O rings ...

and yes, I think we've all had a nasty crisp seal in the oil filter, dig it out with a screwdriver ... :censored:

go and get a can of leak detector spray and a can of brake cleaner. Clean the housing with the brake cleaner and then spray the leak detector on the housing when the engine is running, should be able to see where its coming from, maybe cracked filter housing?

Well I've serviced hundreds of these and also replaced seal never left the old one in I'll get back at it tonight start takin a few bits out of the way see can I see more I'll try put up some pics later
