Greetings,

So I have an 2004 Discovery 2 Automatic 2.5, currently in Morocco.

I took it to a garage to have the right wheel bearing hub replaced. Typical moroccan garage(good reviews online, English speaking owner) fixes the problem and makes an even bigger one. what was a minor issue, has now become a major performance issue.

it is almost guaranteed to happen when turning and accelerating right from stationary and whilst at speed. also whilst accelerating over a rough surface. and intermittently whilst accelerating more than gently.

sounds like a roaring squeal, with the traction control light orange for a few seconds. if I continue to apply pressure to the pedal there becomes a loss of motion and power to the engine.

Im planning to take it to another garage tomorrow, one that specialises in 4x4's.

please advise,

Sam

That's the problem, the RH side hub was replaced but not with the "right" one ... if it was some cheap hub it's possible to have 55 teeth on the ABS reluctor ring while the other norma ones have 60 as they should which means that wheel's input is higher than the other's hence the traction control involvment as the system ''assumes'' that the wheel is spinning and applies brakes on it.... even if the number of teeth is correct it's possible that the sensor is low quality and gives erratic input... the problem is there that's for sure, unplug that sensor which will bring on the 3 amigos but will make it driveable untill you fix it and dont buy cheap chinese hubs again.... happened to others too, just an example(read the whole thread) https://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2-a/230856-tc-problem-after-replacing-rear-hubs.html

great thanks,
I couldn't work out how to unplug the abs sensor? so I just removed the ABS fuse.
car Is performing fine now, will probably take it to garage in Algeciras, Spain in a couple months to have it fixed properly.

As long as yuu dont have air supension it's no probkem but if you have it will not work with that fuse out...also do you have speedo reading?

You have not mentioned whether the hub in question is front or rear. To unplug the rear, follow the sensor wire from the top of the hub upwards, you will find a connector held by a clip, take it out of the clip then pull the two halves apart like mad. it will probably be tight but they will eventually separate. Then clip/wire/cable tie the two halves to safe places, one at leastcan probably go inthe clip, AFTER HAVING CLEANED THEM AND TAPED THEM OVER TO KEEP DIRT AND DAMP OUT.

If it is the front, then I think, if it is the same as the D2 2000 that I have, you will have to follow the equivalent wires up and through the inner-wheel arch. The connector should be not too far inside the engine compartment. But I have a horrible feeling that the later D2s ran the complete wire all the way to the SLABS unit, but Sierrafery will tell you if I am right on this or not! If it is the second case, then you could take the wheel and brakes sufficiently apart to get to the bolt that secures the sensor and then pull it out and secure it out of the way. Again try and really clean things up then tape them over.

ok thanks I will look into doing this. it was the front.

yea the speedometer seems to be working most of the time.

thanks again
