Hi all bought a d2 with a knackered engine I want to do away with td5 as there a pain to work on, with too much to go wrong, does anyone know how to do this conversion? I've seen someone say you can just put a 300tdi bell housing on the td5 gearbox? The disco also has "ACE" does anyone know what happens if you disconnect this? I think the wiring is going to be a nightmare though, for MOT reasons id like to know how to sort all the dash lights out if I rip all the sensors out, short of taking the dash out and removing the lights!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Adam

From my own research into using a td5 box on a 300tdi you will need to insert a 300tdi input shaft into the gearbox and obviously use a 300 bellhousing.

Regarding dash wiring I'd just disconnect anything that can't be extinguished.

Is it really worth the cost and hassle though surely theres loads that needs altering/buggering about with, can't you get hold of another td5 engine?

Cheers I'm trying to source a whole engine/ gearbox... I'd rather mess about now I like the disco 2 but I don't like the td5 engines I've got a few hours to spare and in the long run it'll save me loads... No wiring looms to go wrong, no injectors to go wrong that cost a small fortune.. Thanks again for the advice.. Hopefully it'll be done over the next month when it is I'll post pics! Will a 300 tdi input shaft go into the td5 box?

Im writing a manual at the moment which will have pictures when this is completed I shall be sharing it, will have to speak to my mechanical partner though as I think he'll want small donations to help towards the time of writing it etc

Does he have to pay for time? i get all the time in the world for free

Finally got all my stuff sorted, the converted disco 2 is running and driving.
However I seem to have an alarm problem and glow plug problem, the other day the glow plug light was coming on but now isn't and the alarm has started sounding, I wasn't given the 4 digit code when I bought the vehicle and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, how to disable? Will be posting pics soon!

hi folks
I have just fitted a perkins phaser into a disco 2 it was auto with a blown engine . the engine was mated to a v8 manual box
its all in from a mechanical point of view , my question is the wiring and alarm . do I leave the ecu in and use the old loom from
the old engine to let the car think its all ok

This is a 8 year old thread mate why not start your own thread in the & stick some pics up as its different from the norm
& yes I think you will need to leave all the electrical gear as the D2 is a complicated beast.

Welcome to 2020

I noticed you registered in 2017 lol

Im sure there's a sensor for the flywheel on your old box this might flag up some issues.
Someone with a nanocom or similar diagnostic may be closer than me then you would know
where to start looking for faults. :)

the gearbox is out of a v8 no crank sensor on it used a old milner conversion kit to mate them . I unplugged the ecu
I think this is the main problem , im going to lend a snap on diagnostics box , garmin I think of a mate to see
can I use this to turn off things I don't want

Sensor in your old autobox mate not the r380 box you've just fitted you should start a fresh thread bud
loads of knowledgeable lads on here who will know how to deal with your issues.(better than me lol)

That snap-on tool would hardly help you to set things, you need nanocom... the big problem is that all the warnings and gauges are managed by the original ECU which needs proper inputs to make them work and as it doesnt get them your instrument pack will be almost useless

I was wondering how long it would take you to find this ;)
