Absolutely gutted, on my way home this morning a large tree decided to fall on my Disco as I was driving at about 40 mph. Looks like a write off but at least she saved me from any harm.

Damn,

Unlucky, but lucky at the same time...as long as you are OK and able to walk away then that is the main thing.

How did it stand up to having a tree land on it? Got any photos?

Cheers

Pretty well considering I was doing 40 mph at the time. Nearside screen pillar and front wing took most of the impact, screen smashed, wing peeled back, inner wing bent, headlight smashed and bonnet badly dented. My roof bar prevented any damage to the roof but I'm guessing the cost of parts vs the value of a 54 plate Disco means the inevitable.

I feel for you. But as neilly says, as long as you're Ok, the Disco can be fixed or replaced, which, sadly, does not always apply to us lot.

I'd be gutted if either of ours got written off. Good luck with the negotiations with your insurer.

Cheers, parts alone come to over 3k and that's provided the A pillar isn't bent. Good strong car, wouldn't have wanted to be in anything else. Tree was about 30 feet tall and they had to close the road to remove the rest of it. Luckily my Disco had smashed it into easily managed pieces apart from the main trunk which just bounced off the screen and rolled off the bonnet.

A bit harsh, try telling that to the woman outside Starbucks in Wolverhampton

Very true it's only 5 minutes from me, the park down the road has a few very large trees up rooted glad most people stayed safe.

I'll be out with the chainsaw the weekend collecting logs for next year :p

Lol yes I am ok so no offence taken from me. I do have pics although they are not brilliant and don't really show the extent of the damage. The passenger side A pillar saved me from any serious harm but sadly I suspect it gave its life for me. If that is the case there is no point in buying her back but she will be sadly missed.

Rejoice that you weren't in a defender cos there's hardly any strength in the a pillar :(

Pity you don't have a log burner ;)

You say that, but there are loads of discos out there scrapped because the chassis is rotten... = loads of good second hand parts. If you've got the time and skills to do the work yourself and if you can find a decent colour match sat at a scrap yard, the buyback price, plus the price of the parts, could well be much much less than the insurance settlement.

My commiserations :(

Get the Auto trader app on on your phone, you can set up your search criteria and it lets you know when a suitable car is up for sale. Patience will be your friend here though....
