Hi,

Some complete idiot collided with my disco damaging the offside bumper and tearing the a frame protector (STC53174). Land Rover are saying this part has been discontinued due to pedestrian safety. I might be able to get the part if I can prove that the car came with it fitted as factory standard. Anyone any insight? I have the original bill of sale and it isn't listed however a GS7 option pack is. Can anyone shed any light on that this option was?

Picture added, also check out the wonderful repair job the garage did. Can you spot the fault?!

I can't comment on the GS7 option pack, but please bear in mind that your Discovery 2 is now 13 years old, the Disco 2 line was closed down in mid 2004, so getting almost any part other than the standard service parts from the main stealer is now going to be fraught, some parts even impossible.
The soft "A" bars or nudge frame is the kind of thing which you should be able to obtain on the market which has built up dealing in second hand or as some prefer to call them "pre-loved" parts.
One of the problems you might have come up against, especially when dealing with the main stealer is the sort of grey area of the law regarding "bull bars" or "roo bars", which is why they probably told you that they had been discontinued in the interests of pedestrian safety.
BTW, congratulations to your garage, that's not a bad job, but it would have been nice to see what they started with too.

If you think you have a complaint or an issue with the garage who did the repair, then you need to go back to them and voice your concerns.
Publishing the odd picture on a website in an effort to elicit opinions isn't the way to go.
If an insurance company was involved you could also take it up with them.

Why thank you Brian, I hadn't thought of doing that. Thank you for, like me, sharing your opinion. You've been most helpful.

+1 , take it back, but it also depends on what was asked for and what was guaranteed.

Did they keep costs down by using old / original / damaged parts at your request?

What did it start out like after the damage?

Craddocks advertise an A bar, but if they actually have one will require a phone call.

Cheers

On another note IMO that A bar is ugly from factory and those big spots are not good for the cooling system at all nor for the combustion as they are restricting at least 30% of the air flow through the intercooler
