hi guys

i have a bit of a problem...
i purchased a 1999 Disco II From the USA and got it deliverd to my family home in Cairo Egypt(yes i do love driving in the sand).

The prob is that the car came with a Valeo Key Remote
The remote dosnt work at all. Ive checked the battery and its working fine but it seems the codes are out of sync. The car was left parked in a container for 6 months with the Battery disconnected.

Does any1 know of a way to reprogram the remote/key
???

Any details can be provided.

cheers guys

Note: Must be carried out in 8 seconds to access learn mode. Best done with two people. You should have both remotes available or second one will not work.

Open hood and have assistant hold hood alarm switch down.

From inside car, with all doors closed, ignition off and all lock buttons up

Turn ignition on then off

Cycle drivers door button down then up.

Assistant now releases hood switch.

Turn ignition on then off.

If done correctly, horn will beep once and dash LED will light up. This indicates the learn mode has been accessed. If this doesn't happen repeat 1 through 6.

From inside car, push and hold first remote. The dash LED should flash 8 cycles a second for one second indicating that the code was received. If this does not happen repeat steps 1 through 6 again.

Push and hold the second remote, if the code is received the dash LED will flash 8 cycles indicating that the code was received. If this does not happen repeat 1 through 8 again.

Note: Turning the ignition on at any time will cancel the learning process. The system can only store two remote codes and must be done at the same time. If you only have one remote program it twice.

Hi if the key has lost sync you wont be able to resynch, only a new key fob reprogrammed to the bcu will fix it,main dealer problem fix im afraid but they will be able to check out the receiver in the roof to see if the fob is at fault first, also there is market programming to consider and the us plips work on a different freqeuncy to uk but should be the same as eygpt.

Hi

I saw this on the mud club forum. Has anyone tried this? I have just bought a new fob and want to give it a try but would be more comfortable knowing that other folks have done it already and not diabled their vehicle. I assume this will work on a '96 300TDi as well - two button fob.

Cheers

Felix

I enquired at the local Dealer here in Oz for another Key as there are two drivers. I was quoted around $400 for the key, then the vehicle would have to go to the dealers for them to program the code from their computer into the key, then register the new key with the vehicle (for another $150)

Being of Yorkshire/Scottish descent...I still only have one key;)

I assume the registration process was as mentioned above..
".... turn key on, turn off, beep horn, stand on one leg, spit into the wind.." type thing.

dear all, i am new to the forum and have read most of the contribution from fellow members of the forum. I live in Nigeria and recently bought a 2002 LR discovery series 2 with Valeo remote Key fob.
The remote worked for about 4 days and stopped and the last day it worked, i took the car to work and travelled with another car with the LR remote in my bag.
I came back to notice i can no longer lock/unlock the car with the remote.

The valeo key remote has two buttons with one having a padlock sign while the other one which is bigger has land rover written on it.

Any assistance to get the key FOB working will be grately appreciated.

lastly, the my radio was removed and the radio hole still open because i am yet to find an alpine player for the car or any other car radio that can still allow me the convenience of steering wheel audio control.

please help i really need to sort this out.

Thanks Ratty for your prompt response to my case.
the range was formerly upto 5m away from the car and the dash led normally flashes when ever i press the lock/unlock buttons. Same with the head lamps and pointers. Never sounded an audible alarm.

any clues on how to resolve this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards

well i'll try and talk to the guy i bought it from. The shipping company delivered the car intact but the clearing agent got the whole thing messed up while trying to sell side mirrows, head lamp and the front seat adjuster knobs and ran away. Here in nigeria compensation is only heared or seen on paper and hollywood movies. it never happens for stuff like this.
it cost me 130K naira to fix the side mirror, head lamp.

that is by the way, is there any other alternative step to this remote key problem?

You could try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and then doing the 5 button presses again. If the 5 presses don't work then try pressing the buttons alternating from one to the other. It may take 10 or so presses.
