Hi, i am a newbie by the name of finbarr, i am looking for help with my disco cutting out, i run the disco on bio, i have checked all of the usual problems associated with bio at this time of year,i.e. filter/sender unit/bio freezing and it is none of these. i am wondering if it is the filter that is situated close to the drivers side back wheel arch underneath. what is the purpose of this filter, how easy is it to change, what is the part number and what are the symptoms of a disco that needs this filter changed. i would also add that my disco is n reg and an automatic version also i dont run on b100 during these sort of weather conditions.hope some of you members can assist me with knowledge and advice.apologies if i have posted in the wrong section but i am new to the site. Cheers Finbarr.

:welcome2:

If it's a TD5 it's the fuel Filter, I presume it's easy to do I've not changed mine as my mate does any work on mine, I presume it's smae place as the 200 & 300 TDI's

I maybe didn't make it clear if u mean the fuel filter that is under the bonnet i have already changed that since it started cutting out on tuesday, it is just the same cutting out after i have changed the fuel filter. It is n reg so it is a 300tdi.Thanks for the suggestion landy1uk but do u mean the filter under the bonnet or the one under the body near the drivers side back wheel arch. Cheers Finbarr.

No prob they obviously changed the location of fuel filter on the TD5 as the only fuel filter my mate has changed is the one behind the rear drivers side could be the Sediment filter. water trap just a thought

Regards
Rob

The water trap/sediment filter is the one i am calling as under the back drivers side wheel arch and is the filter i am worried about in this case. i think this is pretty full of water/sediment in this case and has frozen in the extremely cold temperatures we are experiencing. i believe that when this is frozen it is severly restricting the fuel flow to the filter and thus eventually the engine. does this scenario seem plausible or am i just being plain stupid and in fact i have got a dead or dying injector pump.

The water/sediment trap does freeze and can cause you some problems. I would be giving it a clean out before I even started to think about the injection pump.

There is a water drain plug at the bottom of the sediment bowl but you are best off to get a seal kit and take the whole thing apart, give it a bloody good clean out with some brake cleaner and re assemble it with the new seals.

If it's only doing it since you changed the filter, have you checked for air in the fuel lines?

Also, if it's a TD5, check for oil in the red ECM plug - common problem with TD5's

Thanks for the help i think i have isolated the problem to the water trap. I directly put fuel onto the injector pump and the old lass ran as sweet as anything big relief. I have just broken the plug on the bottom of the trap luckily I had already been for a replacement. Now all I have to do is clean the debris out of the hole and let any water/ice out of the trap fit the replacement plug and i should be ok. Once again thanks for the help and i will let u know when i am mobile. Cheers Finbarr
