gotta be better to rebuild it mate ,some one here fancy doing it ?

There is a very good company in Dagenham called IDEAL ENGINES (0208 596 0396)that supplied and fitted a low-mileage secondhand unit to my mates BMW 330d for £2000 pounds - including VAT, collection of his vehicle and a full valet of his car!

They took 4 days.

The BMW dealer wanted £8600 for a new one.

The service was good - I should think they might want a bit more than 2k but give them a call.

The replacement engine is warranted for 12 months.

Hope this helps

Oooooh bugger, feel really sorry for you.

Save a few quid on an oil filter and bang.

Lesson to be learnt here gents.

Have spotted a few on ebay though. Just the crank and bearing suffered? Or not looked?

There are normally 3 or 4 D3's being broken on eBay, engines normally go for nearer the £1k mark though.

Try the Disco3 forum too.

My issue with a "re-con" engine is exactly the same as why I cannot rebuild my own engine.
If JLR/PSA cannot supply the parts to rebuild my engine, then where are they getting their parts from to recondition an engine?

If you can find a Disco 3 engine for £1000, buy it, and I will double your money. Breakers are asking £3500 as there is a short supply. AFAIK, only 1 left in the country from the big breakers. A recon engine is only a few hundred quid more, but are on back order with LR, with no delivery date

Maybe you need to get very friendly with your local dealer/parts department and find out the real story behind component supply?

I already am, and they have offered to supply an engine to me at cost price, as I use them a lot for parts due to my work. They do not have a single D3 engine in stock.

They do have a 2.7 D4 engine in stock, but are not sure if it will fit a D3
