hi i bought this 1999 discovery2 last week, it seemed fine quite slow and struggled to tow up hill i thought but i have never owned one before so that could just be the way they are.

any way the fuel pump was starting to make a racket and it got louder and louder but the car was running fine and starting on the button! until a few days ago i went to start it in the morning and nothing!! the pump was screaming away so i replaced the pump and the filter did all of the fuel purge sequences to get rid of any air many times and it still wont start.

so i got a friend to plug it in to see if it was the crank sensor but no error codes at all!! can anyone help please? im stumped. i think its a fuel issue but thats all i know.

thats an excellent video thank you i will check throught some of those things when i get home. does he say that if the crank position sensor fails that it will not show up as an error code?

I actually watched them all last night and only by memory I vaguely remember him saying something about the CKP specifically not always showing a fault but could be wrong, think it was part 2 maybe, but that just about covers the whole fuel system so am sure you might clock one possible cause :)

If your friend can bring up live data it would be worth looking at the rpm etc. To see what all the sensors, especially crankshaft if you think its that, are telling you. If its reading something might be worth pulling it and testing it

i got it running in the end, i cleaned out the red ECU connection had a little bit of oil in it and then i did the purge sequence another few times and it kicked into life :) still seems to struggle a bit up hill but are they just like that?

yea it was a very cheap filter if i get any more problems ill put a decent one in it.

great ill do that when i get a chance! it was only a tiny bit of oil in the plug but like you say it can only get worse. thank you for the help
