hi guys can i start first by say thanks for any help/advice i receive

i have a 2004 disco2 currently on 150k the issues i have are the engine starts fairly easy in the morning and will idle all day long however when i put the engine under load it will rev in 1st and 2nd then in 3rd will hit around 3000rpm then hold back when changed to 4th it will start to misfire as if running on less cylinders the soloutions i have tried are injector harness replacement, fuel pump replacement, fuel filter and housing replacement, egr blanked off my friend put it on his snap on scanner and live data showed boost to be fine i should also add all the replacement parts are brand new i have also noticed white smoke when it is running lumpy and at idle i am leaning towards fpr but dont want to be spending money on a whim as already thrown a heap at it oil level has not risen either

Hi Steve,

When you say you had it on live data was that when it was running on the road? or sat stationary in the garage? As I would wonder if it is the wastegate is not working correctly or the wastegate modulator is knackered.

Cheers

this was on the road neilly and all came back as normal it seems as if its not getting enough fuel after the first two gears

So it was not overboosting then?
Just a simple check what it the wastegate rod thread count on the rod? just because I am nosy.
Did you try doing a fuel pressure check on the FPR to see if it is maintaining 4 Bar?
Is this a new issue, have you had the D2 long and this has just happened?

Cheers

boost was normal thread count was 13 ish and as for fpr check we are not capable of doing that the first issue of fueling was a pig to start noisy pump and would die after 8 miles or so we changed pump filter injector loom and the found previous owner had used body filler on fuel filter housing hence the running issues replaced this and fine for a month then this issue now pump is not silent but not like a strangled cat either and it will run miles on a misfire and then idle sweet let it sit for a minute or two and then pull through 1st and 2nd like a train then hold back in 3rd and start to misfire again but if not under load will rev all the way

body filler on fuel filter housing

Nice, quality job by the previous owner, gotta love them. Mine fell aprt when I tried to take it off last month.

So have you checked the modulator? tried bypassing it?

Checking the FP at the FPR is easy enough if you can get a fuel pressure gauge, other thing which I have heard off but not seen is the gauze filter inside just in front of the FPR that can get blocked.

Cheers

Yes, at first sight seems like overboost, make sure the wastegate is not stuck then ask somebody to rev it up to 4000 while you watch the wastegate rod...it should move a bit above 3000rpm even stationary...if no movement insist in that wastegate actuation area, modulator, pipework to it, wastegate valve

will try the bypass pipe tomorrow and report back thank you

A mate had a mystery mis-fire under load and revs which turned out to be a damaged or perished flexible fuel pipe. The problem was the inside where part of the bore had split to form a flap and when the fuel wad pumping faster it got under the flap and pushed it down restricting the flow.
