Disco 1 and 2 door mirror question.

Hi guys

i am thinking of replacing my powerfold mirrors ( disco 2 ) for some none powerfold mirrors, the reason being is i am about to have my new along awaited garage built and to allow me to drive into the garage i need to drive between the corner of my house and a wooden fence but its one concrete fence post thats the prob, my old disco 1 drove through with no probs with the mirrors folded back but the powerfold mirrors on the disco 2 won't fold back enough to drive through so i am thinking of fitting some none powerfold ones, i have been told they will fit but don't know if the plugs are the same and if the adjuster will still work the mirror glass, any ideas.

If your looking to fit D1 mirrors to a D2 they are almost the same however the moulding where they fit to the door is not the same profile you may be able to change this but I have never done it. The insides are the same. You could strip them side by side and see if the mouldings are interchangeable.

Or you could put proper mirrors on it.

Hi guys

if anyone is thinking of doing what i was thinking of doing forget it, they don't fit :eek: the disco 2 doors are different to disco 1 doors where the mirrors fit to the door, due to the fixing bolt configuration being different ( late disco 1 mirrors ) and the flang of the mirror being smaller where it fits to the door, so anyway after re fitting the mirror i took off and moving all missus plants ( massif big plant pots ) and getting myself in a awkward position i managed to get the disco through. so if anyone can tell me if early disco 2 door mirrors are the same as late disco 2 mirrors i will look out for some if not i will have to get of my disco 2 and buy a disco 1:mad:

Not as a complete assembly they're not (unless you bodge the wiring connections).

They're the same physical size, shape and mounting and the mirror glasses are the same - but the electrical connectors for heating/adjustment are different.

They're the same as RR Classic mirrors, which have an early type (same as 200Tdi) and a later type (same as 300Tdi).

can anyone out there tell me if early disco 2 door mirrors are the same as later 03 disco 2 door mirrors in the way they fit as i don't really want to take another chance and buy some more mirrors that don't fit, if not i am seriously thinking of selling the disco 2 and buying a disco 1 as i have just spent £5000 on a base and garage and i can't get the car anywhere near to where the garage will be, t b h i never gave it a thought that the disco 2 wouldn't go through the gap easy enough but my old disco 1 would, the body on my disco 2 is un marked but can see myself damaging it sooner or later.
