Dim headlights

I take it you have checked the voltage at the bulbs? If not that's where you start. You don't need to replace any wiring unless its physically damaged, follow the harness, clean any connections, clean the switches. You also need to check battery health and wiring from the alternator, clean all terminals including battery terminals, all earths need cleaning, lastly bulbs wear out, if still not great replace them. I've just done all this to mine, lights are great, dash lights bright and on the starter it turns over like a new one. If you have poor electrical connections your lamps are a tell tale sign, bypassing them isn't fixing the problem.
