hello
What tire category is best for a p38 for on road use,the a/t or all season?when it comes to tire strengh/wear whick one is better?is the a/t category an oem fit 4 p38?thank you

All season are better for all year-round road use. But A/Ts are better if you ever leave the asphalt. If A/Ts were better than road tyres on road, then every tom dick & harry would be driving around with A/Ts on.

A/Ts are bound to be stronger, especially the side walls as they'd have more ply.

I doubt all season tyres will be any stronger than summer tyres, they're just designed to offer better traction over a wider range of weather conditions. The downside is that they will wear quicker than summer tyres.

What do you do with your P38?

no offroad exept 4 going through a small field rarely,we have 3 months of rain (wet roads) very rare light snow or hail in my city.then 8 to 9 months dry roads.but we have a bad quality of asphalt (thin to old) and of course along with potholes.i am confused to replace my tires with a/t or something finer, never had exp with non a/t tires in a 4x4 especialy a heavy one like my baby.

It's a case of weighing up the pros and cons. The all season tyres will handle asphalt road conditions better in terms of grip, especially in the wet. They should also be quieter and may provide a better ride quality. The A/Ts on the other hand will be stronger and will be less likely to be damaged by potholes + if you do need to go off road, you'd be taking less of a gamble. That said, I have summer tyres on my gaylander and it hasn't got stuck. (yet!)

Personally, I'd go for A/T tyres as a matter of principle. I think it's daft to own a 4x4 and have 100% road biased tyres. The only reason I don't have A/Ts myself is because there's none available for FL's with 17" wheels. Wish I knew that before I bought the car!

I had ATR's on mine and wouldn't use them again, bad tramlining and only fair for wear. S/T's are far better if you can get 'em. I think you'd need to be on 18's if you go for full on road tires, there's too much side wall on the 16's for a non A/T tire.

aiy.sorry wht u mean 2 much side wall 4 the non a/t?the sidewall size is 65 weither 4 a/t or non a/t.i like a/t tires on my baby, but everyone here (tire shops) seems to advise 4 non a/t 4 the p38,they even told me it is better 2 go 4 european brands than japanese.dunno y though.they said euro brands r better 4 our roads dunno y also.can u elaborate more abt a/t and non 4 p38?

Remember that 65 is a percentage so a 255/65 will have a much taller side wall than say a 205/65. The A/T tires have stronger side walls than road tires so should keep their shape better cornering. Road tires might ultimately have more grip than A/T but a 255/65 road tire will have a strong tendancy to roll onto the side wall under cornering. So if you want road tire grip go for 255/55/18 instead of 255/65/16. The opposite is then true if you are going A/T where the ride comfort suffers on 18's since the sidewall is too stiff with A/T's.
Regarding euro/jap brands there's not much to choose between them, the euro's may have more design emphasis on snow/wet performance at the expense of wear but you wont go far wrong with any of the good brands, just stay away from nasty vietnam/korean crap

guess i will go for the a/t yokohama geolanders seems to be my final choice,i have been looking and reading about tires for a long time,i doubt all season tires will last on my baby on our roads, one deep pothole and bye bye tire, then i will have to look for a replacement tire different than the other 3 !!!!
thank you
