why has this happend for a second time in 2 weeks

too much right foot!

You must have done somthing stupid or not read the terrain right and the diff said hell no! May i suggest a few days trialling or some mechanical sympathy while driving off road OR if you just dont want to give a **** ashcroft shafts, drive members and 4 pin 24 spline diff that has been pinned or a locker. Then you will have no worries when you stamp the throttle down at all except £1000 less in the bank
Or fit a salisbury and get a custom propshaft made shorter but thats about £400 and really some messing about with brakes etc

that's the politest way I've ever heard anyone tell someone to learn to drive properly, nice one

curious to know what done the damage though, have you pulled the old one apart yet?

no i didn't do the work. my mechanic did the work, i think he took a look at the state of the axle and just put one on he had off another disco he was strip in for parts.

i was taking it slow all day, didn't want to do any damage !!!!

don't know if it means anything but i never had diff lock light on the dash, but did have diff lock ( jacked up truck before going ) but when diff blow the light came on the dash:confused:

Sounds like the donor vehicle probably got a hard time then, and you suffering consequences, what would be wrong with welding the old housing, repairing what's broken inside and refitting it, at least you know what you got that way.

I have managed to blow a dew diffs now, at least 1 was on tarmac and under no more than normal everyday strain. Investigation of that one showed excessive wear due to poor maintenance at some point. The others have failed when I have been playin off road and putting high loads through the drive train.

Something has to let go somewhere, especially where there is good grip and the tyre dont slip, halfshaft, diff, etc.

I would suspect the axle you had fitted was either very high mileage or maybe had been badly maintained, that along with a heavy right foot can easily kill a diff. I always keep a spare at home now and can get them swapped out in about an hour

if the crown wheel is going each time a pegged diff would be an idea

Join your local ARC legal Land Rover club they will run V8's with similar grippy tyres in RTV and CCV trials and will not break much if anything if driven right.

Its application of power have you ever been upset when somone just drives really slowly over somthing that looks impossible?

Mabe not but it upsets alot of people if you can do it and make it look real easy almost effortless. Other people will be spinning wheels mud flying and trying really hard engine revving it tits off blowing up diffs shafts. By the way most the trials guys use 750 16 tyres open diffs and will still put motors where "challenge trucks" only wish they could get. Driving off road as above effortlessly and putting your exatcly where y0ou want it to within half an inch is an art that takes many years, there is no cheat no, bolt this on and you will get furthur that your mates trick other than learning your vehicle, learning how to control it and learning exactly what it can and cannot do. Anyone can snap driveshafts diffs twist propshafts whatever "trying too hard" anyone including chavs in corsas and suzukis can drive at things at speed and get over through or around but to do it with finess and effortless is to actually DRIVE off road.
