swapped the seal over on the rear axle. When I took off the flange, it had white sealant(?) all over it and all over the drive gear. I cleaned this up and reassembled with the new seal

It’s now ****ing oil out more oil than before I swapped the seal!

So I am guessing the sealant was doing something! I assume this is a previous botch and not a recognised thing to do?

I think I need a new flange as that one was pitted too, but before I go buy one, does the gearing on the drive gear look ok? Or is it diff rebuild time to get this to seal?

MOt on Friday...

when you tap a seal in the garter spring often falls off , rear of seal needs packing with grease or petroleum jelly, flange also needs to be in good nick

Ok, so I check the breather, change the flange and it still leaks, it's likely the stub axles?

Any thoughts on condition of the drive gear in the photos?

the sealant was on the drive gear and flange. I wondered if it was a botch due to too much play causing the leak?

Are you getting your diffs mixed up with your hubs?

Cheers
It's the diff that's leaking from just behind the flange. I only mentioned stub axles in the last post as JamesMartin said it could be that in my other post... am I confused?

what seal did you get as that will depend on the mud shield fitted to flange

I binned the box, so don't know the part number :(

I wish I took a photo of the flange and seal now!

I think I'll take the flange off and take it to the garage to get a replacement...

Did you put the seal in the correct way around?

Are you certain the breather is clear?

Breather was blocked! Pipe end looked clear, but took the breather off and it was blocked.

Replaced it tonight, so hopefully that will have solved the problem!
