P38A Diff front

just come in from tinkering with my 1999 2.5 to p38 with your help thanks got the lights in the cab up and running Cleaned greased top up levels etc took it out beautiful the best I have ever had it then clink front diff has gone the prop is wobberly it's one thing after another and been in lanzarote it's not easy to get parts I see there are two types help or it goes on fire

Is it definitely the diff and not the uj's? Did you replace the diff oil/check diff oil level?

On the diff fault, yes there are two types, two pin and four pin, the diesel only had the two pin one, the four pin was for the 4.6 but either will fit but four pin is a lot more money and not really needed.

Many thanks Defoe the diff the flange is wobberly that the prop fits on I check the oil regular but recent I changed the wheel bearings due to noise

Sounds like the noise may have been the diff pinion bearing on its way out, if crown wheel and pinion ore ok it can be rebuilt, although it may be quicker to pop a second hand one in if you can get one ok, but postage on bearings will be a lot less to you place.

If I can sorce a diff I'll fetch it I'll fly over and rtn next day prob cheaper how much would the diff weigh

Iv got a front diff sat doing nothing came 2nd hand with my rr I haven't even unboxed it yet

Lad before me thought it was clicking more seems to be the prop uj and outer cv joint so the diff no use to me 20+ postage and it's yours

Il see what I can figure on the web and open box up in a couple hours make sure everything's fine with it

Prop. Is it just the Hardy-Spicers? They're cheap to fix.

I think it's a rear diff Iv got with the harmonic balancer?

Mine has harmonic balancer on the front as well as far as I remember. I always wondered what it was and what it did!

A lot of adverts say front or rear, I always took this to mean they are interchangeable but may be wrong others would know more.
