Hi ive got a problem with my disco 2, bought it at the beggining of the year and it had a problem with diesel getting into the engine oil and a weeping fuel regulator, anyway i got the injector o rings and copper washers from landrover and replaced them as per the write ups on this forum but now the oil level is right back at nearly twice the correct amount, now my question is as ive only just tonight replaced the fpr could this have caused the problem or is there another cause for the fuel to get into the oil that ive missed or have i just dropped a bollock in replacing the o rings etc!! One thing i did notice was that the copper washers seemed too tight to fit snugly against the face of the injectors or is this normal. Ps its a 2003 td5

If the copper washers aren't sealing properly they will leak causing the symptoms you describe.

Thanks for the reply, its the first time ive changed a set of these particular washers and didnt know if thats how they were supposed to be, so they should slide right up to the shoulder with no resistance? Everything was de carboned and they were genuine parts but i did wonder at the time if i should have filed them out a touch. Are all td5 injectors the same dimentions, maybe my dealer gave me the wrong year parts ?

The upper o rings leaking will raise the oil level, the copper washers tend to cause poor starting and stopping whilst running as the combustion gases are at a much higher pressure and get forced into the fuel rail.
If you are sure you did the replacement of washers/rings properly then it points to a cracked head.Sometimes you can see this by running the fuel pump with the engine stopped and cam cover removed.Look around the unit injectors and the fuel rail area itself along the inside of the head.If you still cant find it then you need to remove the head and get it pressure tested - but make sure the machine shop are familiar with TD5 heads and how the fuel rail is configured. Not all of them test them properly.

No starting issues and im fairly sure everything went together ok although i did only oil the o rings and not grease them but nothing was forced home, i suppose if the copper washers are only letting a small amount of gas through it could be enough to push fuel past the rubber o rings.....or is that me just wishfull thinking!!
Oh why oh why did i sell my 300:doh:
