defender wheels and tyres

Hi all, can you help me i have a 91 defender 90 with some Dicovery 16" wheels and 235 tyres on them, i'm looking at getting some new tyres that are better for off road and also wider 265, can i fit 265 to these alloys or should i get a set of new steel wheels and tyres. the clearance at the moment is very close to the exhaust at the back with the 235 on, i take it 265 might need spacers to fit the wider tyres.

You'd be better off with some modulars or suchlike with a bit more offset though 265's will go on those alloys.
