Dear all Landrover owners!

I'm looking for a Land Rover (Defender or similar) that I could use as my wedding car on the weekend of 05/09/09.
I've all ways been a fan of Land Rovers over the years, but have never had the need, or the space to own one myself. I would love to be able to drive my bride away from the ceremony to the reception in one!

Ideally it would be in good/nice condition (it would have to be clean inside as I don't think my bride would be too happy getting her dress dirty)! Either green/blue/black, but thats not hugely important. Would have to be reliable, as obviously I can't be late for the ceremony, and don't want to be breaking down in between venues!

I would need to pick it up on the 4th Sept, and then would be able to return it on Monday the 7th. Or arrange collection before then!

I am insured to drive other vehicles and would gladly provide documents to prove, I could leave my own Volvo V70 as deposit, with as much documentation (Proof of address, driving license, etc) as required, and would return with fuel etc. There would be a fee payable for the hire, so if your interested lets discuss this in more detail.

I've been driving for over 10 years and hold an up to date license. I am an experienced driver and would be very respectful of the vehicle.

Should anyone be interested in helping me out in this way I would be more than happy to call/email and discuss it fully, as well as meet up beforehand to show documents etc.

let me know your thoughts!

Kind regards

PM Beast of Bodmin he's in Kernow I'm sure he'll be happy to help you out :)

no offence newbie but you maybe better off askin someone to drive it for you on the day as a chaffeur kinda thing, :)

Works out far too expensive for me. (£400 +)
Plus ideally I'd want to use one that is cared for by its owners, and someone could get some spare cash for their Landy

Yup I am a Newbie, thats true. and some may call me Pikey, thats fine i can take worse that that! I'm just trying this site to see what peoples thoughts are and what the response would be..!
It could be some spare cash for someone for what ever they wanted it for! I'd personally prefer not using a hire company if i can do!

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Only one PIKEY on ere :mad: :p ;)

Like I said ...... if you can get someone to drive their own for ya .. im sure you would have a better chance of findin one.

Well Galen, You must be doing quite well for yourself if you can splash out £400 squid for a 2 day hire!
Or maybe your "Missus" would prefer you spent it on something for her!

Mintcherrie Your completley right, im sure im more likely to have more luck having someone drive it for me. But as I assume you know, surely the fun in having a Landy is driving it yourself and not being driven in it! Im even happy to go without champange for the 1st 2 hours of married life so I can drive a landy..!

Heh, we ended up having a mate drive us from the reception to our hotel in a nackered, absolutely filthy swb cabrio (no roof, hoops, tilt etc) series 2. Our lass in full-on wedding gown etc, me in best suit, albeit a little worse for wear!

Bloody Limo company folded the day before the wedding ... but we did get a full refund somehow!!

As the vehicle will be for hire or reward your insurance will not cover you. I doubt very much that the owners insurance will cover them to hire it out either. I've got mine covered for motor trade and that still won't cover me for hire or reward.

Whats to say you aren't gonna clone the ecu or summit so you can nick the vehicle at a later date? Sorry to sound sceptical but having handed the keys of a previous landy over to a mate who then sold it there is absolutely NO chance that I'll hand em over to a complete stranger. If the keys are handed over and you ran off with the vehicle then yet again the insurance would be invalid and the owner would be unable to claim.

Yes Ratty, thats all true and trust me i've thought about it all before (not to say i have an answer for it yet)
I'm more than happy to meet up before hand to anyone who is interested, provide any information wanted to prove my address, hand over keys to my car (worth 5k) V5, drivers licence, any anything else i can think of, utility bills etc. I could put them on my car insurance if they need, and either pay for me to be included for a short time on their insurance, etc etc.
I could only hope that if i meet up with anyone whos up for it they could see my good intentions.
And yes the issue of insurance/hire is a difficult one, but ideally one that could be sorted out with the owner and me over an ale!

I wish you luck in your quest and with your wedding. You may be better off having a chat with a garage that sells landys to ask about borrowing one for a day or two.

£5k won't replace what you have stated that you are after borrowing. From what you are saying you are after a vehicle worth upwards of £10k. Like I say, sorry to sound sceptical and pee on your bonfire but my first landy was stolen in this manner by a so called friend. Neither the police, nor DVLA would give me the location of the vehicle and DVLA issue logbooks wether the vehicle is nicked or not. All they care about is knowing where to send the tax reminder and speeding tickets to. Even 1 hour is long enough to get a vehicle into an ISO container and onto a ship.

Sorry but anyone can fire up a false or stolen ID and the Volvo could be waiting For the bailiffs to come and collect it or be a complete ringer. Or you could just need a replacement engine/gearbox for your knackered landy. You're not the first to ask this question. We had some foreigner wanting to borrow one for 2 weeks so he could tour the uk in it :doh: It simply isn't going to happen. Put it out of you're mind and concentrate on getting either a local stealship to deliver you to the hotel for the publicity, Hire one, or Get a LR owner to drive you to the hotel instead. (Trewy has a new one he might hire himself out for the day)

Cheers Gents & Lady
I understand what im asking for, and Yes i know my car isn't much of a deal breaker! especially if its a much loved self tooled upon vehicle!
So yes i may well change my tactics soon!

and you never know i may even end up buying a Landy one day and be back in this fourm !!

I'm available as chauffeur for £400 a day in either of the below vehicles.
But I aint handing my keys over to no-one.
