Defender TD5 Wheel Bearings ( replacement )

Sorry to start a new thread but the search function doesn't seem to be working...
I've found myself needing to replace the front wheel bearings on my V reg Defender TD5. BUT I can't seem to find a set that looks the same as the cone shaped ones in the hub ( which I've had to temporarily pack with grease to stop them screaming at me ) and the online pics seem to show standard flat profile bearings. Do places like Craddocks just use stock pictures or do I have a bits'n for a front axle ?

I reckon you'd have to take some pictures and post them for anyone to figure what you've actually got against what you should have .. then work out what you need ..

There was a change from adjustable taper bearings to non-adjustable taper type at some point (but don't know when). The non-adjustable taper type are separated by a selected fit sleeve which fits between the bearing inner spools, and the wheel hub nut torques up to clamp the bearing inners / sleeve. You will need to check which type you have.

That type is what I seem to have. I'm guessing, from the 'conversion' adds I've seen, that you can purchase a tapered race that fits into the hub and tapered bearings. I think I just need new bearings but won't know the full story until I get the hub off, by which time I'm committed and won't have any transport. D'oh.

The bearings are all the same if they are the old style without spacer or with the spacer. If your buying the complete Britpart Overhaul kit I believe it just comes with the old style 2 lock nuts. Bearing part number is STC4382G I would recommend getting new stake nuts RFD100000

as above rtc3429 or stc4382 same bearing but fit timken if you can if you have the single nut and spacer between the 2 as other bearings can have differing dimensions which is not a problem with the 2 nut adjusting type but can be with a selectable spacer unless you have a range of them
