No sure if this is the right section to be posting, however;

I have been trying to find the source of some black smoke coming out the exhaust under acceleration/ gear change. Changed MAF sensor, new air filer, checked MAP sensor. No luck.

Today I was looking under the bonnet and saw a very disturbing hole in the the Turbo waste gate actuator. Picture attached. Just wanted to ask what issues this may cause? lack of power? black smoke?..
Obviously I am going to need to replace this. But, for the time being is it dangerous to drive?

How much is the replacement part? / difficulty to fit?

Many thanks,

Deary me! Get a new one. SP 4x4 have them instock.

Super easy to replace.

Pop the clip off the rod end of the actuator that connects it to the wastegate.
Undo the two nuts
Set your new actuator to the length of the old one and refit.

Try gaffer taping or sealing the hole some other way and see if things improve, if they do replace actuator.
What has been rubbing on it to cause that, make sure it does not rub on the replacement

Many thanks,
its not dangerous but waste gate might not shut fully, google td5 turbo wastegate actuator its not sold as a lr part separate to the turbo so no part number, but people sell them

Okay brilliant thanks for your replies.
Will look at the part now. Do you think this may be causing me the black smoke I'm getting?
Also would this cause any effects to my MPG? seems I'm guzzling through diesel at the moment.

Many thanks,

All fitted. I tried to match the set up of my original waste gate length if you will. Thought I had it right. But, I took a trip up to tesco on the dual carriage way earlier and felt under powered, struggled to get up to 70 without lots of effort. There was 'surging' when I put my foot down, not sure if surging is the correct word, but the vehicle juddered when my foot was down accelerating up to 70. and when at 70 i tested to see if i could go any faster and it 'surged' again. Just didn't feel very smooth like it did before.

Please, if you know whats happening, shine some light. Thank you very much!

No worries it's just gathering dust in my man cave. Good luck and hope it sorts your problem.
