Trying to test my CB, didnt come on and heard a small spark. Then found the 12v socket doesnt work (did before) checked all the fuses below the center console all of them are fine.

Multimeter reads 3v in the socket, surely that aint right? Any ideas?

Also while this is up, im guessing black is earth/neutral, I think orange/red is sidelight feed, so that would make the final one live? If I were to run a feed direct from the battery to the socket obviously this would be a constant live, how would I change this to a switched live?

Mainly so I can keep my dashcam running and leave things plugged in without worry.

Does the backlight still work? If it does that means your earth connection is ok. If it doesn't, measure the voltage (with ignition on) with your +ve terminal on the centre connector of the socket and the -ve lead on something metal (chassis) but not the cig lighter outer sleeve. If you get 12v then you have cooked your earth lead or terminal header. Report back with your findings for stage 2 ;)

Cheers boys!

Heres what happened, socket itself is fine, earth is fine, the sidelight never worked (on both me landys), tested with a direct battery earth, still nothing.

Somehow the live is dead, landy running or not.

I ended up stealing the switched live off the old heated seats. Good news is my CB works!

The feed to the lighter socket is an easy one for previous owners to steal or tap into for other accessories because it's obvious and nice and chunky and most importantly, live. I wouldn't be surprised if it has been tampered with in the past. I had to replace my wire most of the way back to the fusebox to get mine to work. It seemed to have been damaged by self-piercing connectors which weren't there any more but had damaged the copper inside.

Sorry Brown missed your reply! The wiring behind the dash is 100% original, so not that. It turned out to actually be a blow fuse  but it was a REALLY cheap fuse with a tiny break, I couldn't see it when I checked. Replaced it with a better quality fuse and it works.

Only annoying thing is I stole a switched live off the old heated seats to make it work again...
