Morning folk, trying some pictures wth this one.

Dumb**** I bought my Landy from, could not tel me what the red led light was on the instrument panel. Ok, I'm not a complete idiot (just four thirds of one!), so I figured it's an alarm.

Light is on permanently when running, flashed when engine off. Fitted a new horn a couple of days ago and now on start up, after glow light goes out a get two wee beep beeps. Otherwise, you would not know there was an alarm.

Anyway, any advice on what to do with this thing appreciated, it's bound to shut the landy down at some point. (p.s no alarm fobs or nowt). Worth spending five million quid to get the steelership to check it out?

Thought about that too, Nope, no central locking.

I downloaded the RAVE LR workshop stuff but cant find anything on the alarm. The owner handbook is useful, if you have a full CL alarm, but don't say nowt about the system.

Having another look about, sure it's not factory fit. I can trace a couple of handy bodge auxilary wires from the back, engine side of the bulkhead that are obviously not factory. One goes to what I think is the injector pump, cant see the end of the other one.

Update: 2nd wire looks like starter motor connection.

Can't spot any obvious switches on doorS or bonnet, so just an imobiliser alarm? with motion detector on the side wall above the driver?

It won't shut your engine down. The immobiliser has been bypassed.;)

The 2 beeps of the horn and the red light are telling you that your landy has been immobilised and either needs the button on the fob pressed or the fob held close to the receiver ring. The fact that it's still starting tells me the immobiliser has been bypassed. The 'dumb ****' aint so dumb. He removed the horn so he could sell it to a 'dumb ****' without them realising this had been done.:p

Ah, now you could be right on the dumb **** thing there.

Don't think its just a dummy, no point wiring to injector pump and starter just for that.

Horn not removed by last owner, just lame, so i replaced it. Double beep has now stopped as well.

Still have the side unit over driver head?

What's that under the center seat though (first picks)? Assumed it was to do with the alarm.?

thats for the egr valve. Blank the egr and you can remove the under seat ecu.

Your alarm is a standard alarm. The wiring you can see are the bypass wires that, as you state, go to the ip and starter.

Did you get a fob with the landy? does it appear to do anything? It could be the fob has gone down or it could be the alarm spider behind the dash is fecked. You ca get a bypass wire from your main dealer for about £8. part number AMR4956.

No fob with car. So, ok a bypassed standard alarm.

What would the bypass wire from the dealer do, if system already bypassed?

Think its worth ripping it out, fixing it, or just getting on with life.

If the horn beeps stay silent, just leave things as they are. If it keep honking and getting on your nerves, the bypass wire should silence it. It would basically have done the job that the new wires to the ip and starter have done.

No, No fob.

If its been bypassed, what whold the bypass wire from the dealer do?

Views on whether to Leave it as it is and live with it? Rip it out? or Reinstate it?

The bypass wire would have just bypassed the immobiliser as has already been done but without the need to run new wires. It is basically just a plug with looped wires on it.

See how you get on. If the 2 honks keep happening I'd try the bypass wire.

You may want to tell your insurance company that it has been bypassed as it would invalidate your insurance.
