Looking to replace the rather tatty intercooler in my 1990 90 200tdi, all ready has 300 cooler fitted.
Not looking for performance upgrade, just something tidy for a sensible price.Should I go for an original type or one of the alloy types out there. Cheers all.

I've contemplated this. What I'd like to know is why are intercoolers so much more expensive than radiators? Or, is it just me?

They are indeed my man, larger than the 300/200 TDI ones in width (full width )and depth (not by that much). Not too hard to fit either afaik

I have got the old one out of mine you want it for postage?

I couldnt tell you from personal experience, though I do know a friend fitted a std TD5 one to his 300 90 which not much of an issue.
Cheers, mate. I'll do a bit more investigating first. Does your old one look like this? LINKY
The Allisport ones are expensive. Is this company sh@t do you reckon?

It does in indeed look like that.

Couldnt say really but the welds and fins look decent. I did have a Britpart one on my old 90 which was perfect for a couple years till I sold it, tad cheaper than the Allisport at £350 but not sure it'd be needed on a TDI. A standard TD5 one would do the trick fine. Let me know if you want it, happy to package it up for you etc...

That's very generous. I'll investigate the feasibility of fitting it and let you know. That uk performance one looks canny for the price. I'm not looking for boosted performance by tweeking the FIP. My current IC is the original one and was just thinking If I was to replace it I'd put something uprated in. Someone will come on and say it's pointless if I'm not tweeking the pump

No worries! they arnt worth much anyway, gave me last one away too!

Probs yep haha though always worth fitting the best ye can afford just incase you decide too!

Me mates 300 is pretty tuned up, pin/ring/ic/FP tweak etc... goes like stink! At points was hard to keep up i my TD5! haha

Exactly how else am I suppose to make myself feel better if I cant tempt other landy owners into modding their own? :p Hahahaha
You're a bad lad. You're like an alcoholic tempting people to drink :D
Speaking of which, I'm off doon the pub soon. The wheels came off last year's 'Christmas eve couple of pints'. So, I'm going to exercise some restraint this year, at least until pint 4. Then we'll see what happens ;)

Back to the original question. I am looking to replace intercooler but are any of those welded up alloy ones on the market any good or should I stick with rover type?

which hybrid turbo did you fit? I've had my TD5 mapped recently after fitting an alisport inter-cooler and blanking off the egr. What a difference! I've heard its not good to have a raised air intake with a hybrid turbo, do you have any experience with this?

Good ay! Haha

From TD5Inside/CRTurbos PT, ive got a snorkel on mine but the intake has been modified so its more free flowing, basically a direct 3" pipe from the box to the snorkel top with no restrictions inbetween
