i wish you all the best in trying to get good cheap insurance the best option i could offer you is to ring around and play one off eachother good luck

It's a pain in the arse trying to insure anything reasonably these days, especially for young drivers. When I was 17, I was insured with the NFU on my own policy third party fire & theft for £475, earning a no claims bonus. I am now 21, insured with Footman James and the cost is £520 for essentially the same cover but with no no claims build-up. NFU wanted over £3,000 to insure me this year, so I played hell with them, asking how they can ask so much when they asked so little just a few years ago. I haven't made a claim, nor has anyone made a claim against me. It's just ridiculous. Footman James also appear to have slipped up with the quote they gave me, but they had to acknowlegde it. They "should" have charged me over £1,000. It's getting worse as I get older, not better. Motoring is ****e, utterly ****e.

get a thatcham approved alarm. it can bring your insurance down a little. tell them you remove a wheel at night. and then ask them of approved ways to lower the premiums, they should have a list of things that as a company they want you to do.

but ultimately the only way to lower your insurance is to build your no claims, drive safe and avoid accidents, never accept the first quote, ring everyone and their dog for quotes and get them to justify their price. at least that way if your premium stays the same you will know why.

different jobs also give different prices, i am not saying you should lie to your insurance company. however, an it worker can state they are a data analyst which lowers premiums. maybe only by a few quid. but it is a few quid in your pocket not theirs.

hope some of this helps.

i'm 17 and have third party insurance on my defender 90 for 1500 quid with the NFU however i think they only insured me because we have all our tractors etc with them any way its worth a ring !

Nfu won't insure under 23's? Unless someone in the household is with them already..

My cousin is with highways with a 200tdi 90 for just over £1000. He's 17 when he took out the policy and I've got a 3.9 v8 90 for £700 with no no-claims and I was 19 when I took this policy.

Reason I got such a low price is to play them at there own game. Join a 4x4 club, Recommend a member of the family, Join your local 4x4 response team (charity discount) and do your advanced drivers with IAM or ROSPA.

Try lancaster. I'm 21 and it's only £250 a year fully comp. I think they are trying to get the land rover market as the companies that previously supplied most people are putting their prices up. Good luck.

Main problem you'll get is being too young And they won't quote. Forget nfu they've been no help for me, tres 2.5 n/a , dad an mum insured with them and they said 6k. With aviva on a disco 300tdi for 1600 now, admiral is another cheapy. But again put your parents on it.

If only that were the case - they've (recently?) stopped taking on standard 110 station wagons. Tried to get a quote off them a few days ago and they can't insure anything with more than 8 seats - so that's every 110 station wagon before the TDci they're excluding

I'm 20, all my insurance is using Adrian flux, with highway insurance being the company (af is just a broker) all around 1200-1800 depending, plus I have a claim too!

As above. I'm 24 and with these. When I was 22/23 it was £500. My renewal came through at £250. Can't complain at that :)

I'm 43 with full no claims on 2 other venicles. I'm struggling to find what I want insurance wise.
I want agreed value £8k +some mods (lights, snorkell, wheels/tyres, bumper & guards) + bussiness use as I occasionally use the 90 for work (in bad winter weather etc.) most supposed landrover specialists dont offer what I want so far Lancaster is the only one to offer a quote after reffering to their underwriters the quote was £1200 I nearly fainted at the price.
Anyone any ideas for that

watch out, lancaster stung me

quotes of 400,
i get the money i go to buy the car
ring insurance to confirm details, they had it listed as my 2nd car.!!
wont insure me now, so cant buy the car.no stuck with the money.

check EVERY detail
also check seats they have down on the car.

check the small print on AF as well - they make assumptions....

1 of them being that you have 5 years ncb the other that your over 25 and the third being that you have cat 1 alarm imobiliser and a disk lock.

first two id told them otherwise at initial quote , and the third i guess is something you should have.

still annoying to find when reading -as i had a quote of 150 from them.

still only 180 with 0 NCB as second car on limited milage - age 25 - with admiral :)

I'm 17 and I'm insured as a named driver on a 90 TD5 with NFU, I don't know what the total cost is but I know that adding me as a driver only added about £40 a year or something because its a hard top so its classed as a commercial vehicle. Means I cant have people in the back even though there's seats but its not bad.

I was looking at getting son aged 21 on my insurance for a 1997 110 CSW with 6 seats... one problem was that my vehicle was 14yrs old. Had it been 15 or more then I could have got classic car Ins. and that seems to be even cheaper.
I didn't make any further enquiries this year
