Hi guy recently got a really bad rattle develope from the gearbox on over run at about 50mph, been under my 90 today and the pivot pin for the diff lock was missing and diff lock was engaged.
So I've been driving on diff lock (eek!) could this be gearbox/transfer box damage or another problem thrust bearing is a little noise (6 months old low mileage) and if it is damage what might it be

Thanks

Any scuffing on the tyres? Did you hear anything go bang or snap?

No scuffing that I can see and I don't think there was a bang or a snap. I did hear something that sounded like a loose bolt rattling then clink around and go quiet for a bit then shortly after the horrible metallic rattle that I have now

No diff lock light it's a bit of a mess behind the dash (previous owners fault) and recently done the rear prop front seemed ok bit was next on my list to check

A little update as been out there again today front prop has very slight in splined coupling ( about 3mm) difflock still works but a little clunky

Nope it's rotational between the splines i packed it out with grease to see if the noise was quieter but nope still sounds like clutch/gearbox. Had a cheap clutch put in December last year prob done bout 1000 miles on it could it be that falling apart slowly?

Rattle is no constant like something is loose spent half a day look can't fine what it is knowing my luck it's something stupid
