Newbie here.

What would be the best Defender for towing a horse trailer and 2 horses, total weight 1850kgs. I need a Defender with 4 seats, budget up to, say, £5k.

Thanks in advance.

200tdi, 300tdi or TD5. Pretty much any diesel defender in the 1992 to 2006 era. My personal preference is the 110csw for the best load/passenger carrying ability but it is also one of the most sought after types of body style so can be quite pricey.

A 110 is said to be a bit more stable for towing due to being a bit longer and it being harder for the tail to wag the dog if you know what I mean. Never had a 90 though so can't really speak from experience.

i tow a 1300KG (empty) double axel ifor Williams trailer with my 90 TD5, its brilliant, and i think as the steering lock is better than a 110, its easier. You cant feel the trailer trying to move the car, it just feels a bit less powerful!

Hi robpenrose

I just. Have a New iforwilliams trailer 12 ft, 6 ft headroom with decks total empty weight is 1235 kg.

Grosso w is 3500 kg.
My question is: Do you think a defender td5 (year 2005) is Good for the job?
I.e. Towing 3500 kg. And long journey?

Regards

Buy a discovery if you want comfortable, but discovery 2 make sure it has a chassis still.

Defenders last longer.
