Defender TD5 90.
When I press the passenger door outside button it now doesn't unlatch the door. It had taken a few attempts but now doesn't work at all. It opens fine using the internal pull lever. Before I take door panel off etc any suggestions as to whether it is the button, latch or some internal mechanism? Anyone have a diagram at all please of the workings ?

Best option is to remove the internal door card and have a look see. Very simple to remove and should only take 10 mins.

the button is connected to multiple rods and workings which may have parted company. The little hook clips can detach and the rod hook drift out. If you need a part let me know as I have all the workings from when I stripped out 4 spare doors.

Thanks (From a TD5?)

Hi there, should there be a retaining clip where I have circled please, on the rod from the lock button to the latch? Inkedcatch_LI.jpg

I’ve given up with trying to figure out the strange world of the Defender lock and latch system!!!!

from day one, I’ve experienced issues with the door unexpectedly unlatching and opening, whether stationary or not. Other times I am unable to unlock the buggering thing and need to enter via the back and use a knife to release the latch. I’ve replaced the rods, 2 new locks. I’ve checked the bulkhead position and tried to adjust and replace the (slam penal) latch on the door frame. All to no avail!! I suspect it’s probably some kind of invisible twisting in the door....hey ho! It just wouldn’t feel right now if I was to drive around a roundabout and the door not to spring open ‍♂️♂️
