I shall be converting my Defender to 300TDi Auto and as i dont have the running gear yet im enquiring on engine/gearbox mount positioning.
Ideally id like the lot here to mock it up and weld accordingly but its just not possible at the moment and as id like to progress with the chassis some more id like to know if anyone has the measurements/dimensions for where they should go? I remember there being a How2 somewhere but that was wrong according to others that used the information.
Can anyone help here?
Thanks in advance.....

I'm assuming you 90/110 is a N/A or TD engined model at present. In which case the front engine mount will need to be removed and and a noo one welded a bit further forwards. Best way is to position engine and affix mount to engine then mark position on chassis. Tack weld bracket and then remove engine and weld bracket up securely.

My 110 is a n/a petrol. As said in my original post i dont have an engine yet hence asking if anyone knows the positioning or can measure theyres

Problem is A all measurements need to be taken from the same datum Point. If someone measures theirs from a fixed point and you measure from a slightly different point all the measurements will be out. The only foolproof way is to do it with the engine in situ. also the height of the bracket is as important as the distance between the brackets. it's easy to bend a chassis slightly without it affecting the drive, if the measurement is taken from or transferred to a bent chassis leg you'll be out again.

Yeah i knew that would be a problem just wasnt sure if there was a universal way everyone could measure, or a reputable how 2

Cheers fella nice idea but i doubt he'll share details when those offcuts are up for 100 delivered lol

Drizz, for the sake of a few welds I would wait till it's all dropping into the chassis. You can have it all ready, old mounting points cut off, chassis cleaned up for welding, then it's just the case of running a few seams of weld.

Point is chap i want to send it off for galving ASAP as i dont have a donor yet and cant seem to find a sensibly priced one, so want to get the chassis done and get on building it back up. I know LR tolerences are pretty shocking but they cant be THAT bad surely that i cant copy one already running?

I assume you will use a R380 gearbox?

I will get some measurements for you, won't be for a few days though so someone else might get something to you in the mean time.

Lol beat me to it. As far as im aware the auto box mounts the same as the R380 so it shouldnt make a difference. Would anyone else mind having a measure up too?

Aye - you not seen an auto R380 - you get your missus to sit in the passenger seat and shout clutch when you've dipped the clutch... That will teach me to read the question, I am sure my teachers used to say that too!
