if we had a ninety, 90 200tdi, 90 300tdi, td5 and puma 90s
All side by side how many standard little bits that change body wise?
Like early ninety up to defender 90: hinged windscreen brackets, ribbed roof, hole in front valance, lift up door handles on early ninetys.
Defender tdi
Smooth roof, intake in right wing (300,td5,puma) left (200), no hole in valance, normal windscreen brackets.
Defender td5
Filler moved to rear of tub (rear tank),head light grills vent things, torx bolts fasteners for hinges, cut out for exhaust in rear mud flap
Puma defender
Smooth roof with small ribs at the back, no vents in bulk head, bulge in bonnet.
Is there anything else? i know im sad

The rear cross member changed when it went from Tdi to TD5. Little plastic caps were put on the end of the bumper on later Defenders too.

Age related colours.

Not really visual but the panels got thinner as the Defender aged apparently. The joiner we use has had a string of Defenders and changes them every 4 or 5 years and he says the newer panels dent and flex easier on the newer ones.

Although not visible I definitely noticed the bonnet on the td5 is wafer thin compared to 200tdi, and probably 300tdi, and it's much lighter too... I wonder when they stopped offering the wheel on the bonnet as an option. I'm guessing with the intro of the td5, but the bonnet when lifted has some serious flex in it due to lack of strengthening on the underside.
