Hi all

The windscreen wipers on my Td5 90 have decided to slowly grind to a halt - the fuse is okay and so I guess it must be the motor or linkages. Is it easy to access the motor behind the dash to check?

Any tips gratefully received!

Cheers

Mike

No easy way to it. Its a dash out job, the motor is on the left side in front of the passangers left knee and the wheeboxes, linkage are all behind dash. It is not a difficult job to do just very fiddly and involves a lot of disassembling. Check the relay first.

the motor is easy to access on the passenger side of the dash under the plastic cover. If you drop the motor out the drive spring will come out with it. You can then turn he wheel boxes by hand to check they haven't seized up. As you said the wipers 'slowly ground to a halt' it sounds like your wiper motor though.

Thanks for the comments - I'll have a look for the plastic cover and see what's lurking underneath...

Cheers

Brilliant! Might have a go at this following such a useful step-by-step. I bought a Haines manual at the weekend in preparation for trouble as the wipers on my 90 stopped altogether, then started again a few minutes later. Possibly water ingress only, but they were set to intermittent when they first stopped, so could be the motor.

I have the same problem, although i think mine may be a different cause.

Passengers now have to whack the dash to get them moving again, with no passenger i usually lean across or kick it...

I think I'm right in saying that the internal splines in the wiper arm can wear out, causing the wiper box spindle to rotate, but the wipers don't move.

Or am I talking 80110cks?

My wipers did the same thing (slowly ground to a halt) - ended up having to put new wheelboxes in.
