I am fitting a secondhand county roof and headlining to my 1988 truck cab. I haven’t yet removed the truck cab and am slightly confused as to how the mirrors and visors are fitted. Is there a full length plate that runs behind the leading edge inside the headlining with captive nuts and if so do the visors and mirror have to be fitted prior to headlining fitting?

I know they bolt through the head long but there must be something behind, the roof behind is not drilled to accept them.

the sun visors bolt into captive nuts on the roof. they are fitted after the headlining and are what secures the headlining to the roof along the front edge.
The rear view mirror has a little plate riveted to the centre of the windscreen frame that has the captive nuts to screw the mounting bracket into this that the mirror then clips into. Again the headlining is fitted first.

I may have some pictures of the rear view mirror bracket as mine was bent and I had to replace it.

Apologies for the poor quality as is not actually a a picture of the frame is just in another picture. you can see the central bracket which is riveted to the frame for the rear view mirror, and you can see the four brackets with rivnut/captive in for the sun visors.
