You’d be better off posting in the insurance section for a start...;);)

Have you done your pass plus course? That will always help.

Have you discussed the various “black box” options with insurance companies?

Having a parent as a named driver may improve things a bit too.

Other than that, you’re a teenager, I’m assuming a male, guessing this will be your first car and wanting to drive a vehicle that will do MAJOR damage to people/property when (not if...) you get it wrong. You are always going to pay through the wallet big time....

In all honesty, you’re probably better off getting a normal car or if it has to be a 4x4 then a freelander, or even a Suzuki or something more car like and earn your first couple of years NCD (No Claims Discount), making sure to keep your nose clean and then upgrade to a fender when it’s more realistically priced for you.... sorry for the bad news but that’s just the way it is thanks to the risk your stereotype presents to an insurer. You may be the exception to this stereotype but you’re still going to pay the price.

Fuk 'orf

You ain't gonna get a fender or any decent car at 17!!

As said above earn ya no claims in a ****e heap first.

Honestly if your heart is set on a landy then a series would be cheaper to insure. Due to it being considered a classic vehicle. I’m only 23 and 0 no claims as I’d always been on a parents insurance as a named driver.

The discount for a “classic vehicle” is amazing. My quote went from £1200 down to £340 after the discount was applied. This is also nice as I’m earning a no claims for cheap.

Then again, that’s if you want to deal with a series. If you got a series 3 then it wouldn’t be too difficult, synchromesh gearbox, servo brakes etc etc.

Then again, I try to pressure everyone into a series vehicle so, up to you. Check out admiral, they’re pretty cheap, or talk to Adrian flux on here.

Why are you specifying a 53 plate? Have you already bought one? Honestly I hope you haven’t. I’m with spot, if you have to get a 4x4 then a defender isn’t going to happen.

My insurance dropped a massive amount due to being modified for off road use admitted I'm a lot older (32 ) but only 1 yr ncb (due to not insuring a car for 2 yrs so lost mine grrrr) give advance insurance a call there amazing standard did I was £1500 modified brought it down to £275 absolute insanity. Also I am NOT affiliated with advance they just are brilliant (mentioned them in few posts)
