Hi everyone,

Im currently looking at purchasing a Defender 90 around a 2008 model but i'm quite confused in terms of the different engines i'm seeing available some are 2.4 some are 2.2 are there pros and cons of each engine and also do all 90's come fitted with a diff lock i'm hearing people say they do and people saying its an optional extra please help me out

many thanks

Matt.

What people say they don’t be have a centre diff lock?

Try here for model info:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Defender

2.2 and 2.4 are the same engine tuned to the same power. The 2.4 was unique to Land Rover the 2.2 used in lots of other vehciles. Ultimately the 2.4 is probably better from a tuning point of view. But not massively so. Arguably a Td5 is a nicer engine however.

I'm guessing they're referring to diff lockers on the axle diffs - not standard, or really needed unless you do serious off roading.

In terms of the engine - i think they moved from 2.4 to 2.2 due to emissions or something similar.

As said above - i'd go the a later td5 model.
