Some of you may have read my recent posts ref the juddering on my disco.... i took her to my local Land Rover Dealership for a diagnostics check not knowing if it was Fueling, Gearbox or what.
Paid for an hours work in which time they said that the transfer box needed replaced,i got a reciept and paid vat in cash. i bought a recon tx box and gearbox got a local Mr clutch to fit just the tx box and hey presto the problems still there!!!!!! took it back to dealers they loosened handbrake bit better but it is still there and handbrakes vertical 7-8 clicks.
basically i feel that ive had bad diagnosise and now am £500 light with the same problem and 2 gearboxs n tx boxes.
just thought i'd air my dramas rather than kick the dogs.
I,m down there again tommorow so i'll keep you updated, if uve had a simalar drama post on. [/B
I wont say where the garage is just in case they sue ME!!!!!! but if anyone wants to know i'll tell you via IM

Hello

From a legal viewpoint ~ You aint got a leg to stand on or a pot to **** in !!!!!

You didnt buy or have fitted the replacment transfer box by the dealer ~ So they have no duty of care towards your vehicle.

Anyways only a crazy person takes a 12 year old discovery to a dealer !!!!!!:D

Agreed but i took it to them to tell me what was wrong with it as i had no idea, although they did not carry out work they did diagnose problem which i got fixed by qaulified people/firm. They did draw money off me AND give me a write up with "TRACED FAULT TO EXCESSIVE FREE PLAY IN TRANSFER BOX", So i would say ive got a leg to stand on, but thanks for reply.

That piece of paper aint worth squat !!!!!!

It would only help if all parts and labour were carried out by the dealer who diagnosed the problem.

If all work was carried out by them then Yes you would have a fair claim against them if the same fault persisted ~ However the dealer will claim the replacment box is faulty or that it has been fitted wrongly.

What the service manager said is that they will replace old one foc and if it is still doing it they may try and sort problem ,that to me is admitting blame of some description, also they gave me number of company who got boxes and who did job. Not a lawyer or anything but common sense dictates take it to specialists first rather than my Haynes and halfords spanners.
Maybe i'm wrong it certainly felt like i was treated like a pauper, and a thick one at that

Yet another one gets hit....
Ive been to x3 main dealers for various repairs when ive been away from home, each time the workmanship was disgraceful, twice ive had to fix their mistakes/go over their work to do it right.
Your much better dealing with a small family run firm in a back street somewhere.
Next time i buy a Landy..... I'll steer clear if its got full main dealer service history.

Thank you, today weve had it back no joy. BUT i took it to a small garage they got it right first time, as i said it was fueling, the injector pump is on its way out but it also had a blocked injector so £20 on fuel additive, £40 on trickery now drives spot on !!!!!! i will take this further with land rover or at least stratstones i'm now £500 + out of pocket and it wasn't the problem they said it was, however fueling like i said when i walked in,just makes you think doesnt it.
Oh and we all should be aware of the Consumer protection act 1985 i do have a leg to stand on and dont always listen to what is said on chat rooms!!!!!!!!!!
New pump round £500 next month maybe!!!!!!!!

Well Cossiedreamer.

Im glad you got your disco sorted out at last.

However !!!!!!

Be aware of one fact ~ Land Rover will back Stratstones up 100% with there origional diagnostic work and findings !!!!!

You do NOT have a leg to stand on due to the fact that you took your vehicle to a 3rd party for work to be carried out WITHOUT the written consent of Stratstones !!!!!

As you point out everybody should be aware of the consumer protection act 1985 ~ This act has made many rogue traders clean up there buisness shoddy practices ~ BUT with regard to motor vehicles it becomes more vague and in many cases you will find great big loop holes in this act.

You say you are not a lawyer in your posts ~ WELL IAM !!!!!

You then finish by saying that you dont always listen to what is said in chatrooms ~ Well this so called chatroom is used by most people to find solutions to there land rover related problems ~ As a rule you place a post asking for help relating to your vehicle and then in time other members reply with there advice on the best way forward ~ Not as in your case where you start by saying it could be the gearbox or a fueling issue after you had already blown £500 !!!!!

Retsgom
I should've said its CPA 1982 NOT 1985!!!
I did post as soon as we had a drama on here and had no replies therefore went to Stratstones. I was hoping that this site would be like the Porsche Owners Club and RS Owners Club (we're members of both) instead of which I got 'you've got no chance mate' or words to that effect. Not wanting to start on the wrong foot with a new website as I may need help in the future.
I've been back to Stratstones this afternoon as car now drives with only minor problems (needs new fuel injection pump as I'd suspected it IS fuelling problems originally!) and they are now backpedalling BIG TIME as they've got no paperwork for the car having been there, I paid in cash and unfortunately for them I have the receipt and diagnostic info and the fact that they recommended I go to Dingocrofts Garage which is also mentioned on the paperwork they gave me. I think that someone has pocketed the cash I paid and now they're in trouble! I've been asked to go back to speak to their Service Manager on Monday when he's back.
We've got other cars and this disco is only for towing the caravan and taking the dogs out at the weekend.
Thanks for your input anyway Retsgom, positive or negative is always good eh? LOL :D

Now you tell me !!!!!!

If your origional dealer reciept states all that you say it does then YES you do have a fair case.

Before you go and see the service manager on monday it would be in your best intrests to give your local Trading Standards office a quick call ~ They love this sort of stuff and can point you in the right direction.

You need to write down all the names of the people you have had dealings with over this matter ~ And the chain of events which have occured along with a breakdown of all the costs which you have paid.

I think it would also be wise to work out a rough costing for the time you have lost due to the vehicle being out of action ~ Dont forget to include all your out of pocket costs such as petrol and any bus/taxi expense you have paid.

Present all this along with COPIES of the origional reciepts to the dealership manager and not the service manager !!!!!!

Hope this helps and let me know if you need anymore info.

Best Wishes & Good Luck

Thanks Retsgom for your professional advice :D . We're going to sit down tonight and prepare all the info as you suggest coz we kept all the receipts, etc and will get in touch with Trading Standards again on Monday morning. We'll keep you updated on progress ;) We really don't want a long drawn out process coz we just want the landy fixed and need the dosh to do it. The landy drives a bit better after putting in £30 of Redex Advanced but still a bit lumpy and it obviously will need working on soon.
