Freelander 1 Dark Dashboard Screen

Hi all,

Appreciate if you can help me with this. My Freelander 1 TD4 dashboard screen (mileage meter) is dark so hard to read the numbers. Seems like the back light is illuminating but the screen is dark.

It looks like it has a cataract !

Presumably there is a plastic cover over the LCD panel that has got to hot and discoloured/shrunk. I don't believe a replacement purchased. I believe you need to replace the whole instrument pack. Maybe the cover bit that's damaged can be remove?

Does it brighten on thumbwheel, bottom right below steering wheel, could be a backlight bulb failure, or its age related led failure

Looks like the LCD screen itself is damaged? It may be possible to unsolder this one and solder in a replacement - but you’d need to be reasonably skilled in the art of soldering ...

Looks like it's had the wrong wattage illumination bulb put in. This could have melted the LCD display.

Only on Canadian spec FL1s. Oh and mine because I fitted one in the space. It doesn't actually work though and I'm thinking of removing it so I can fit a tyre monitor in the space instead.

Mine has one and is not Canadian.

So it appears there are some non Canadian FL1 with dash dimmers. I'm sure I read they were Canadian spec only, but I think I'm getting with the outside temperature display being Canadian only.
My facelift SE doesn't have a dimmer and never seen a facelift that does. Maybe it was an option?

Dimmer was fitted to Austrialian and US/Canada specs only from factory
