Had my D3 for 2.5 yrs now and the thump form the trans has been annoying me more and more was getting to the point where I had started to think this is going!
it doenst do it all the time but the favoutite bit is coming to a roundabout, slow down see its clear apply power and thump then away you go, rest of the time its perfect but any rolling on and off the throttle around country rods and it was thump every time.

Then read on the D3 forum about a fix involving a reflash of the gearbox ecu to take into account the higher mile wear and tear now on these motors.
The fix is provided by Gap diagnostics and you need the IID tool which to be honest is really a must have if running a D3/4.
So I contacted Pat at Gap and he set up the file for me and I downloaded it onto my IID tool and then reflashed the cars gearbox ecu, 6.55 minutes later it was done.

I have only done about 50 miles in it since but have to say it has transformed the car big time, dont get me wrong its isnt perfect but Im very pleased, it is actually like driving a different car
Cost 25 quid for the file.

also heard about this, mine will occasionally do it, seems when u touch the brakes then back on the power, where if i don't touch the brakes, slow down then back on the throttle there's no knock

will get in touch with Pat and good to know it's a simple reflash of the gearbox

mines currently at 99,000 miles

did have the turbo actuator software added, where it will motor the turbo lever open and closed twice every time i turn the ign on and off to prevent it from sticking , that was also a cheap £25 quid reflash via Gap,

know though it can over write a remap and has to be reinstalled, mine isn't mapped so didn't have to worry , but know if the actuator arm flash software is added to check about the remapping software first

thks for the heads up

I've read a bulletin about that but i can't find it now... as @gstuart said, a firmware update is needed and only if it doesnt help you can start worrying

Pat from Gap did say it wasnt their file, but for the 25 quid they do provide the means to load it onto your car.

seems that gap have been able to offer extremely good software updates that land rover dealers can't

was very impressed when i was asked to send all my ecu details to gap, they went through it, then sent a file back to update my turbo actuator , so that it would do a self test every time i turned the ign on and off, to prevent it from sticking

have never experienced such a company with expertise and fantastic customer service
