Can anyone please help.
I’ve recently taken on my friends D2.
The gearbox grinds when changing gear and it can be difficult to locate the gear at times.
It had a new clutch last year and I have put a new master and slave cylinder on. I recently took the gear stick housing off as I suspected the yolk retaining clip had come off.
All was as it should be apart from a lot of play in the selector shaft. (See video)
Has anyone experienced this before. Is there an easy fix or am I looking at a replacement box?

the grinding is because the baulk rings are worn out a very common issue, setting bias springs will cure finding the gears, you cant fix worn out with out stripping the box but may improve what there is with some decent oil

Thanks guys
But will this cause the selector shaft to move like that?
selector shaft has grooves for the detent balls they also allow movement as youve shown it is normal

Surely there shouldn’t be that much movement? There is at least 1/4” play side to side or am I correct in saying that I need either a rebuild or a replacement box?

you may have slightly more than when new but it aint making your gears grind thats baulk rings, that requires a rebuild
