Afternoon all .. not sure if anyone can help with my situation , it's starting to shake my normally cheery disposition..
Long story short (ish).. blew my drive belt a few weeks back and that's led to me changing that and the crankshaft pulley.. After some sage advice from this forum and some great "how to" links. Managed to do the job, although, like an imbecile, I ignored advice to remove or protect radiator and promptly poked a hole in it!
My momentary loss of the ability to remain calm returned when I found you can get a new rad off fleabay for £45!.. Its shown up today and I've fitted and started refilling coolant .. as soon as it got to rad it started pouring out of a redundant pipe, which was blanked on the original rad (I assume to feed an option my car doesn't have?!)..its a pipe bottom left as you stand looking into engine bay, above fuel coolant feed according to Haynes manual? Anyway.. Really want to avoid taking it all apart again etc, had a quick look on some forums and there's some talk about having to drill blanks or fit some sort of restrictor inserts?
Bit lost here, if I block this open/redundant pipe with 10cm of rubber hose and a stopend..am I good to go? Or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any pointers. .Cheers

I take it you mean this one bottom on drivers side.

Changed at EU3 model change.

Cheers

I guess my own fault then for relying on discrption in sellers ad which stated it would fit all td5 99-04.. Even so, anyone got a reason as to why just blanking the redundant pipe myself wouldn't work?
Thanks

No probs, just clog the extra port and you are OK... for example aftermarket alluminium radiators all have both those ports to be suitable for both modells and if it's Eu3 the redundant port must be blanked that's all

I have also installed an aftermarket radiator on my 2003MY td5. It also has the additional pipe connection but in my case no hole in it.

Looks like capping the additional pipe has done the trick, used 8cm of 16mm radiator hose with a wheel bolt covered in sealant and jubilee clips.. Driven for a couple of days with no leaks so fingers crossed. Have informed the seller that he might want to update his listing to make it clear this is an "eu2" rad and will need modifying for eu3.
Only thing left to fix now is aircon fan permanently running , there's a few threads here talking about the fact that when it overheated the ecu "latches" the electric fan on to help with overheating and can only be reset by clearing code etc. I have an icarsoft i930, which has been handy for me for years in diagnosing and clearing some codes, but it can't see anything regarding overheating or fan etc, it's not as in depth as a nanocom or hawkeye.. I'm hoping I can get hold of a little independent garage with the equipment to do it.. Cause I worry a main dealer will hammer me just for plugging in and hitting "clear"...
