Can someone explain how to get the ball joint off the drivers side of the drag link. This is the non adjustable end. Am I missing something here. I have the drag link off and in a large vice and cannot get the ball joint off. It wont budge. I have applied heat, scaffold pole extension to a spanner on the ball joint and the damn thing wont budge. Has it been welded on? Do I have to replace the whole damn drag link?

I'm almost sure that both the drag link and the track rod on the D2 have an arrangement where there's one adjustable end and one fixed end. The problem then arises that if the fixed end ball joint is worn then yes, it's a case of replacing the complete item; in your case the drag link.

Hey guys thank for the info. I was right then the damn non adjustable end is fixed. Therefore replace the whole thing. Its the one at the back, so I guess this is the one :-

So the one at the front is the Drag Link and the one at the front the Track Rod

As @discool has said, the drag link has the bracket on it to fix the steering damper to. The drag link connects the steering box drop arm to the wheels. The track rod connects the front wheels together so that they both turn to steer.
Thanks for all the info guys, much appreciated. New steering rod on it's way. Very reasonably priced too from JDS 4x4
