D1 speaker question.

Hi all, after aquiring my Disco before Christmas i noticed that the big speaker unit in the rear door wasn't working, on closer inspection there was some sound coming from it but barely audible, the speakers look in reasonable nick but i don't have a clue how these work in conjunction with the other speakers in the car, are these prone to failure or usually reliable?.

Tell us more about your car, we're not pyskik's (just been watching phoenix nights - can you tell!)...
Standard or aftermarket head unit???
If its standard I've heard a few stories of people finding them rusted solid, new speakers would fix that...

Usually reliable there's loads of info on the bass speaker in this forum, pages of it.

Just done mine, both were corroded solid, two new speakers with aluminium/plastic cones from ebay, bit of fiddling and reconnect it at the head unit got it sorted.

Dont expect gut wrenching bass, they're only 6.5" units but they do add to sound quality a lot when working.

Can i add any make of speaker to the rear door unit?, looks like both need replacing but on inspection it appears that each speaker is held in the unit by a single screw in the centre of the speaker base.

They are 6.5" 4ohm units, i got the highest power units i could off ebay, 50w i think. They were the ones with tweeters in the middle, a pair of wire cutters sorted them out, they were held with screws through the magnet, take screws out, fit amp, refit screws.

Takes a bit of butchery but it all works. Some speakers have threaded holes, its pot luck really.
