D1 Rear Step???

Just laying under the arse-end of my disco trying to fathom out if the 12s trailer socket is actaully wired up or just for show when i spot what looks to be a gas-strut about 5" long with a rubber bellows on the rod part, its just tucked up underneath, one end is bolted to the O/S rear chassis support.

The only thing i could think it was for is a rear step of some sort???

Would that have been fitted??

If its no use i'll whip it off and bin it, one thing less to fall off

yep its the remnants of a hydraulic step - remove and bin

If it still works sell it on E bay. I have a Disco2 7 seater. When I bought it in England I saw the rear step was always down. I knew my mates disco had a step that used to go up and went down when you stood on it. Came back to Spain, looked at the strut and it was knackered. Tried to get a new one. How difficult can it be ? Landrover Malaga.. No way. Discos with rear steps never sold for export so we aint got it and cant get it. Utter boll···ks. It left hand drive for fu·ks sake. Gotta send to USA to get one or wait till I go back to UK.

Its an idea, i'll see whats its like when it comes off.
