Hi all, I have a p38 diesel 2000/w reg, as a result of a loud rattling noise coming from the pulley area I have replaced all of the pulley tensioners, belts and alternator. Still the same, if I take the main belt off the noise goes, there is anti clockwork and clockwork play in the main belt crankshaft pulley , is this normal?

Pulley is knackered, it also serves as a vibration damper and has a rubber insert which has failed.

Ok thanks, is the crankshaft pulley in one part of does it separate in two serving the air con belt and main belt?
It's in two parts held together with 6 bolts, don't think it separates for the a/c and main belts. They are mega expensive but there's on on the Bay for £45 if you hurry. Item number 292616632414, and I'm not the seller.the main and a/c pullies seperate, the main being the damper.

Small point ,Do n0t try to slacken the big crank shaft bolt .its very tight and drives the oil pump, if you do try to change it with a second hand pulley ,the quick way make sure the main crank bolt is bloody tight:eek:...;)
