Hi all
Right got my 3.5 V8 running nicley BUT so i could get it running i connected the coolant pipes any old how and non of the manuals realy tell me were the pipes go from and to. so has any one got any pics of a 3.5 V8 (strom carb) thay they could send me so i could use it as i guide as at the mo the expation tank fills up but the Rad emptys lol.

All so the Vally gasket (Inlet Manifould gasket) is leaking as i have a bit of water in the oil and there is oil dripping from the back of the valy gasket. whats the best thing to do with this and whats the best stuff to seal it?

I can't comment of the earlier 3.5 V8, but on our 10-stud 4.0 there is enough movement between the heads and the locating dowels to allow the heads and manifold to get out of line to each other.

When we did the rebuild, we put the heads on with the bolts just a bit more than finger tight, then fitted the lower manifold with the old gasket, using the four outer corner bolts only, pulled down to about 6lb ft. Then we went ahead and pulled the heads down fully, removed the inlet manifold and refitted with new gasket.

That ensured that the head and manifold faces were as aligned as they could be.

The whole rebuild thread is here:

In theory, you shouldn't need any sealer if you are using a new gasket but as ever, theory sucks! So use Blue Hylomar (Halfrauds do an equivilent) non setting sealer. You shouldn't need more than a thin bead and you only need it on the water way joints.

Regarding the hose connections you should have two pipes at each end of the manifold. (in fact it is one pipe at each end and one pipe that is bolted to the underside running from front to back). The two rear pipes connect to the heater in and out pipes. At the front, the pipe that runs under the manifold connects to a stub pipe from the back of the water pump housing which leaves one more short connection to make which I can't remember but should be pretty obvious!

Good luck

Chris
