Noticed a coolant leak (small) yesterday - here's a photo:

On the passenger-side - just next to the AC compressor. The large hose was replaced only a year ago.

Is it leaking form the hose itself ie past the clip?

If so when the engine is hot just how hard is the hose?

Don't know when it appeared - looks fresh though, coolant level has been steady for quite a while now and only dropped a tad. Will need to check hose/clip - clip not adjustable.

Will be going for a long run in a week or so - will check that hose then - should get hot! What exactly will it tell me if it's hard or not?

Possible head gasket failure.

Had a look again, suspecting clamp/hose - only a very small leak (hardly any change in overflow tank level) over maybe 3 months of driving and engine runs beautifully - no issues. If it goes really hard that means exhaust gas in hose? Will check, but thought that would also mean smell from overflow tank and milky looking coolant in overflow tank?

Exhaust gases in the coolant mean just that, more and more pressure until something gives and it boils over.
You may or may not smell it in the expansion tank, more likely see bubbles.

Thats exactly how mine went, minor coolant leak from that same hose/clip, so thinking clip was weak stuck on a jub clip, then next weak spot was the rad which then proceeded to leak, then I twigged hose was rock hard after a run, new hg fixed it.
