So I recently got an late Series 3 (1984). I am new to land rovers but not new to car restoration (I have a bunch of VW's and Porsches).

One of the things that needed fixing was the front seats. I ordered a set from paddock spares (deluxe) and they are nowhere near the right shape. What seats should I be buying?

Pics of seats fitted and seats from Paddock below:

The knackered ones don't look like series 3 seats. I am probably wrong but your new ones look right.

One of the problems with old series is finding out what has been changed/ upgraded over its life.
God help the bloke that ends up with mine.

The new ones look the same as mine, think I've photos in my new toy thread on here? Your old ones are defender ones.

Have a look on exmoor trim - there you'll see plain standard seats and the deluxe versions.

The Deluxe versions were introduced towards the end of the series 2a run (I think) and were always in black. Prior to about 1968 (don't quote me on dates!) the standard seats were in Elephant grey but after that they were (like the deluxe) always in black.

As mine is a very late series 3 is it possible they started to use defender seats? There are no spare holes for different runners if that makes sense?
Thats what made me say I may be wrong. It seems a lot of bits and bobs overlap on the series.
If you have a chat to the guys at Paddocks they may be able to enlighten you. I have had some crap off them in the past but the staff have always gone out of their way to sort things out.

Ah ok makes some sense. So I am trying to keep this relatively standard so should I swap back to series seats or keep the defender ones in the possibility they were fitted originally?

I have a late model S3 and x1 above. Your fitted seats are not Series seats. The ones you got from Paddocks are correct deluxe series seats. It's personal preference but I find them very comfortable.

Early 90/110s (pre Defender) had SIII seats...mine did when I got it, and I swapped to later Defender ones. There are two types of Defender seat base, the early type has 8 bolt holes per seat which lines up with SIII seats, the later ones just 4.

Not sure what you paid for your new seats and whether you could return them, however just in case it's of interest I am selling my old SIII seats, bases and cubby box...it would go straight in your vehicle. Ad here, however I am now very much up for an offer here as they are just in the way.

Sods law...we could have just swapped!

Hi, I'm new on here.... I've got the exact same ones in mine, it turns out that these are an optional extra as stated in the land rover optional extra brochure that i have. They are for the county version of the sIII and would have had head rests.... they should have a plastic / rubber rim around the back.

Does anybody know where I can get the fixings for the delux seats, I've managed to purchase the original adjusters and frames but now need the fixings.... John Craddick do stock some but not all, any ideas would be much appreciated
